The Corvette C8.R GT3 is a GT3 version of the GTE C8.R, created by Corvette to compete in IMSA racing this season. The GTD Pro category was introduced into the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar series this year, allowing professional teams and drivers to compete in GT3 cars. Corvette was the only manufacturer that did not have a GT3 version of its car running in customer hands, so it chose to convert its GTE car to GT3 specification for IMSA before the introduction of the new, ground-up GT3 car in 2024. The conversion from GTE to GT3 specification was not simple, as the fuel, power levels, downforce levels, weight and differential regulations are all different. GM worked with IMSA to bring the C8.R into the right performance windows and agreed on where compromises would need to be made in order to ensure the conversion would make sense from a cost and performance perspective. One major difference between GTE and GT3 cars is the braking system. The GTE class does not allow for ABS, but it is mandatory in GT3 categories. The addition of ABS will be one of the biggest changes between the GTE-spec Corvette C8.R and the GTD Pro variant.
